I considered calling in sick today (still not feeling great). Instead I came in early. :/ Makes sense, right?
What can I say, as Kellys, what we do, we really do.
But as I'm sitting at my desk, I'm wondering how it is that all of my least favorite callers (aka clients) are calling in this morning. One right after another, again, and again.
Yes, I have least favorites. I know their voice. There's one that calls for one of our attorneys, on a regular day he might call 6 or 7 times within a couple hours. He refuses to leave voicemails and if the attorney doesn't answer, he calls the front desk to ask if the attorney is in his office. Really, buddy? Do you think I'm going to tattle? If he's not answering, either he's not there, he is busy, or he's as sick of you as I am. But the truth is, he'll just call back again, in a couple minutes, just as he promises right before hanging up. This client also insists on cutting me off every time he calls, and is rude all across the board. Mr, who's never even said your own name, you win "lease favorite caller."
The close second is our financial advisor here. He only comes in second (rather than first) because he technically is doing us a service. But he calls over and over each day, every time listing his name, though we've met countless times in person, he still acts like I don't know him, and I suspect it's because he somehow manages to forget me, every time. Why? I'm the one person in the office who is yet to receive the 401K benefits here. Then, perhaps he'll miraculously remember my name. ;) Not only does he call every day, he calls for nearly each person is on the office- and rather than saying "Could you transfer me to..." at the end of one conversation, he calls back the main line after each, asking for the next person on his list. He's a well-known nuisance in the office, who I guess is accepted since he manages a lot of money.
Number three, I know his name, and his voice. He calls all the time, but he's polite and to the point so I don't mind him too much, except when he's rotating with these other three guys like they're in a three-way ping pong championship telephone dual! All the while I'm throwing my headphones back off- on-off-on-off-on as I'm trying to dictate never-ending tapes on the website edits that I need to be making. Hmm.
There's a few others, who tend to call the other lawyer who I handle phones for, but luckily he's out right now, so I'm letting a few of those slip straight to his voicemail. ;)
Was that a rant? Yes. Sorry. I know, in the end, it's just a telephone, but man how I rue it some days, all the while trying to keep my voice smiling. "Good morning, .....this is Katrina"
(one last pet peeve: people saying, "yes Gina" or slightly less-annoying "yes, Trina" - I want to tell them to LISTEN, but I know it's probably my own fault in pronunciation(?). I let it go, which my family might attest is a big sign of maturity in me, yes, I can let some things go. I just typically choose not to. ;) I'm working on it. Stubbornness is not a virtue, so I hear.)
